Listened took his time we discussed the options available offered a cortisone shot to help and it did! The fellowship dr. Was very informative as well .

Dr. Karas has replaced my left hip and both knees. My last surgery was September 9,2025, today October 9, l am walking unassisted (even stairs) with no cane, or crutches. I can damn near run! Feels great at 71 y/o.*

My experience with Dr. Karas started with a visit to see about hip replacement options. As my wife and I went over the options we immediately decided he was the surgeon for me. Amazing knowledge, great bed side manner, answered every question we had for him and showed a genuine concern for me to have the surgeries and get on with living my life. A huge factor in picking a surgeon is the confidence you have in the surgeon who will perform the procedure.
During this initial meeting we met the "Team" I didn't know it at the time but this is another huge part of Midwest Orthopedics at Rush. It started with Stepanie Rossin our patient liaison, an amazing part of the team. Stephanie coordinated everything, the surgical date or move up date in my case. Then pre op and post op and all the appointments that we might need. I was lucky and they moved my first surgery up about a month, no problem as fast as you could say new surgery date Stephanie had all of it rescheduled and emailed to me. Wait you have more questions, a call or email to her and it was answered in no time either her directly or the appropriate person. She did all this as a total professional with a smile on her face at all times. Always ready to help you or calm you!!!
Next group of the team is the Physicians Assistants. I hope I get them all as I had at least McKenzie Greene, Madison Segrin and Alexis. They are with you pre op, post op and during surgery. Keeping you informed all the way through. The knowledge they have is incredible and again all with great bed side manner. I had a lot of questions, and they had every answer. In fact, as I write this on Sunday afternoon if I emailed or called any of them, I am sure I would have a call back in under 5 minutes with an answer!!! You are in great hands with all three.
The head of this amazing team is of course Dr Karas. Before during and after you won't find a better surgeon. The pain I had going in was pretty significant, as I walked out of the hospital after the surgery I had none. I am 9 weeks post op on my left and 3 weeks post op on my right, I have put my trust in the care of these professionals and the protocol, and it has worked out perfect. Dr. Karas is the best surgeon!!!
A mention for a few folks on the team but a little more behind the scenes. The receptionist, the xray and cat scan technicians and the surgical team at Lincoln Park Surgical Center. Everyone from the moment you check in at Rush to the xray and cat scan technicians are great professionals that treat you with great respect and dignity. All are friendly smiling and helpful through the entire process. None of are used to these procedures and the process but they know that and just take great care of you. Yes even the Valet parking attendant. That might seem funny but anything or anybody that makes your life easier during a surgical visit is awesome.
They use a variety of surgical centers, and we used Lincoln Park Surgical Center for both procedures. Again, all the top people, the person that checks you in with the paperwork, the pre and post op nurses, anesthesiologist, PA's again and of course Dr Karas. I was treated as well as I ever have at any facility.
One last thought before my long-winded review ends. On the first day the team gives you a green book that guides you through the entire process and I recommend reading it cover to cover a few times as it has fantastic information and references to take you through this surgery. Follow it and also, I would recommend using at home PT for the first few weeks and follow them to the letter everyday you can. I did 3 days per week for 3 weeks, huge to be able to do it at home. If I missed anyone my apologies, you all helped to give me my mobile life back. Thank you, Terry*

Dr. Karas did knee replacement surgery on both of my knees. I highly recommend him and his practice. They were so great in providing support and answering all my questions every step of the way. Not to mention that I had 2 successful knee replacements thanks to Dr Karas' excellent medical expertise and the professionalism and knowledge of his staff.*

I have my knee replacement in September 2024. Since that time I’ve heard repeatedly from his office and receive constant updates on what to expect as I recovered from the surgery. Everything was absolutely perfect from my initial appointment thru scheduling surgery.
Surgery was successful no pain after the procedure. They were great keeping me informed about everything to expect. They arranged all of my prescriptions and I left the hospital with everything I needed including arranging Physical Therapy. Couldn’t be any happier with the whole experience.*

Because I am 80 years old and have some health issues I was concerned about having major surgery. My experience with Dr. Karas and his staff has been excellent. I was in extreme pain because I needed to have my left hip replaced. I was referred to Dr. Karas by a friend who was his patient. Doctor listened to what I said and after a thorough examination explained in detail what is involved in the surgery I needed. His staff made sure that all necessary medical approvals and tests were completed and scheduled my surgery quickly. Other than minor pain from the surgery I was completely free of the excruciating pain caused by my hip joint. I am grateful to Dr Karas and recommend him to everyone.*
